Category data in Crisp at Dot reflects Dot-specific categories, not syndicated market categories (such as Nielsen or IRI). You won’t see competitor-specific data. Instead, you see your performance compared to total category performance across the Dot network.
Expansion Summary
Expansion Summary provides two side-by-side visualizations that measure the width and depth of your distribution penetration.Customer penetration (width)
The left visualization compares:- Category Customers — The total number of Dot receiving customers that have purchased from your master category during the selected time period.
- My Customers — The number of those customers that have purchased your specific products.
POD penetration (depth)
The right visualization compares:- Theoretical PODs — If every one of your SKUs were in every category customer, this would be the total number of possible product-customer combinations.
- My PODs — Your actual points of distribution.
How to use it
Use the filter bar to narrow the view:- Filter by Customer Province to see penetration in a specific state or region.
- Filter by Product to see how a single SKU’s penetration compares to its category.
- Combine filters to answer targeted questions like “How is my new product penetrating the Southeast?”

| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Sales by Sales Dollar | Your shipment revenue for the selected time period |
| Sales by Volume | Your units shipped |
| Category Sales by Sales Dollar | Total category shipment revenue across all suppliers in the Dot category |
| Category Sales by Volume | Total category units shipped |
| Category Sales YoY Change | Year-over-year change for total category performance (color-coded green/red) |
| Category Customers | Number of Dot customers purchasing from this category |
| My Customers | Number of Dot customers purchasing your products in this category |
How to use it
Expand a category to see subcategories, then expand a subcategory to see your individual products and where they’re distributed. The gap between Category Customers and My Customers at any level shows where you have room to grow. This dashboard is useful for:- Sales planning — Identify which categories and subcategories have the largest untapped customer base.
- New item launches — See where a new product’s category is already active to prioritize launch targets.
- Dot promotions — Build a case for promotional activity by showing category growth trends.
Distribution Customer Detail
This dashboard contains the same metrics as Distribution Product Detail but is oriented by receiving customer. The hierarchy expands from customer → category → product. How to use it
Use this view to identify specific customers who are purchasing your category but not your products. This is a fast way to build a targeted expansion list:- Sort or filter to customers with high Category Customers counts but low or zero My Customers counts.
- Expand those customers to see which of your products are missing.
- Export the list to share with your sales team or Dot BDM.
