Applying filters

Filters allow you to dig deeper into your data. Whether you’re trying to compare last year’s sales to this year’s, or trying to look at product performance in a specific state, filters will help you uncover the information you need. Applying a filter will quickly update most of the visualizations in your dashboard to reflect only the information you’re looking for. In the following sections, you’ll learn about applying standard filters and cross-filtering, as well as how to select multiple filters.

Standard filtering

Every Crisp data dashboard comes with standard filter options. The filters appear at the top of each dashboard, before your data visualizations. Standard filters typically include a combination of date, date granularity, state, chain or banner name, location, customer, or product. Clicking on a filter option will reveal a drop down menu for greater control over the filter settings. Note : For the Date filter, if you choose is in the last 1 month , this will only show data from the current month (which may be less than 4 weeks, depending on the current date). For example, if you run a report with this filter set on February 7th, it will only contain a week’s worth of data. For the Date Granularity filter, if you choose Quarterly , since the data is captured weekly, be sure to include an additional week following the quarter in the date range to ensure all data for the quarter is included in your report. For example, if you want to capture all the data for Q1 of 2022, set the date range to 1/1/22-4/7/22.

The + icon beside the filter drop-down menu allows you to add additional filtering rules to focus on the exact data you want to see. If you aren’t sure what filter you want to add, you can click the empty text box to see a list of options. Note : It may take a few seconds for the options to populate, especially if you have many to choose from. Click the reload icon beside the filter options to refresh your data. Most visualizations will then update to reflect only the information that falls within the specifications of your filter settings.

Cross-filtering

Cross-filtering is a feature that allows you to click the elements in visualizations to automatically apply a filter. Clicking on the following types of visualizations will apply cross-filters that immediately update others in the dashboard.

• Clicking on a state within a ** ** heat map such as Sales by State will automatically filter dashboard visualizations by that state.\
• Clicking on a point in a line graph such as Sales Quantity Over Time will automatically filter visualizations by that date.\
• Clicking on a bar within a bar chart such as Qty Shipped by Product will filter your other visualizations by the selected product.

• Selecting colors in stacked bar graphs such as Channel Share and Product Share Over Time will filter your visualizations by channel or product and time period.
• Clicking bars or cells within a table such as Sales by City will also apply a filter.

Applying multiple filters Press and hold ctrl + shift (or command + shift on a Mac), then you can select items to apply multiple filters.
